Her hair is usually a mid tone brown, long, and sometimes wavy, sometimes straight, depending on how she decides to style it on any given day. Recently she's added a few highlights to spruce things up a bit. She is fit, taking her general health and well-being seriously, but not the sort of officer who looks like she spends every free moment in the gym. She has a tiny scar on her right cheek from her childhood, but not other distinguishing marks. |

| Personal History | Kaapre Dani was born 5 years before her home was freed from the occupation of the Cardassian Union. Born to poor parents, in one of the many detention camps that the Bajoran population had been forced into for decades, Dani was raised under harsh conditions and constant fear and worry. Hardship was the day to day for most of her formative years, where she learned to always keep one eye open when sleeping, and never, ever trust a Cardassian. With this formative youth, it was something of a miracle that the child was always bright and bubbly. No matter what harsh lessons were learned, her gregarious nature never seemed to fail, and her urge to know more, explore everything, only grew over time. With every set back or punishment, Dani just convinced herself that she had to be better, quicker, smarter, cleverer. Then maybe next time she'd really see where that Gul hid the best Jumba sticks, or what was really behind those cargo crates that never seemed to be moved from the back of the supply warehouse. After the Occupation, Dani found herself and her family resettling on other parts of Bajor, with her parents taking up farming in an effort to help reclaim the land and undo decades of devastation, often with the help from the less than efficient Provisional Government, and the far more useful (if less welcome) aid of Starfleet. They made a favorable impression on the young woman, but her parents were less than thrilled by this development. Never mind that the Emissary himself was from Starfleet. They were still outsiders and Bajor had had more than enough of outsiders 'help'. They would manage all on their own just fine, thank you very much. Her parents had a plan for Dani, and all her younger siblings. They would rebuild the land, make it better. Grow their small community. Families would strengthen ties between each other. Old friends would cement their bonds by marrying off their children. Dani was one such 'happy union', pair off with the son of one of her mothers oldest friends, one Naldas Rye. Never mind that Rye and Dani got along like oil and water. it was only many years, and one failed marriage later, that Kaapre Dani found herself at the small temple on Deep Space Nine in the wake of the Dominion war and rebuilding efforts, needing to get away from the oppressiveness that had become her home life. At age 20, the recently divorced young woman stared into one of the Tears of the Prophets, and found that her heart, and future, no longer lay on the planet of her birth. Having always had an interest in the stars, and now with an assurance that she was better off away from her ex, and from her homeworld, Dani left the temple with her head held high, a smile on her face and a fever glow in her eyes. And marched right across the promenade to the Starfleet Recruitment Office. And she never looked back. |
