Personality & Traits
| General Overview | An amiable person, Henry is more than happy to work with just about anyone. He can often be determined to solve a mechanical problem set before him, sometimes to the point of working well into the early morning. Despite this, he is fond of the occasional practical joke, and happy to enjoy the moment when it presents itself. | |
| Strengths & Weaknesses | A mind set for puzzles, problems, and seeking their solutions, Henry is a natural when it comes to mechanical issues. His understanding of what he calls the “paper sciences” is limited to it’s practical application in engineering. Likewise, his skills at combat and tactical situations leave much to be desired, and while he can hold his own in a fist-fight, he is fairly useless at weapons fire. |
|
| Ambitions | In the immediate, Henry’s primary ambition is to see the outpost on Tabula Rasa in it’s finished state. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | Henry enjoys chess, horse riding, and jogsaw puzzles. |
| Personal History | From an early age, it was clear that Henry had an aptitude for solving puzzles. He was forever in the habit is taking apart children’s toys that were supposed to be “indestructible”. His parents, fed up of finding the remains of their son’s tinkerings tried to nudge him into less destructive directions such as jigsaw puzzles. Later in his schooling, Henry knew that he wanted to get more involved in mechanics, engineering, and anything that would let him take apart and put back together machinery. A purely research based career did not interest him in the least, as that was what he called “paper sciences” – interesting ideas to write down and publish, but it didn’t give him the opportunity to do things, to fix broken things. That primarily left him with the option of entering Starfleet, to become an engineer. It would be a choice that would change his life far more than he could have predicted. Entering the academy shortly after his 18th birthday in 2384. Henry proved his skills at almost anything mechanical. The next four years helped him to hone his skills, learn new ones, make friends, and see the potential for the life that lay ahead of him. The gold uniform, and seal of the Starfleet Corps of Engineers beckoned to him. Before he would even dare to dream of that high a goal, he first set his sights on something closer: graduation. Striving to be his best possible self, Henry managed to finish well within the top 10% of his class, a position that pleased him greatly. At the age of 22, Henry Castle was an Ensign in Starfleet, and received his first assignment as an Engineering Officer. His posting on the Nova-class USS Archimedes was certainly to be an adenture like he had never suspected. The first couple of years of his assignment went by without much in the way of incident. Henry achieved his promotion to Lieutenant JG, assisting his team leader, and gaining some much needed management guidance and experience. A few months after his promotion, the Archimedes answered a distress call from a crippled freighter. It seemed that the Weeping Somnambulist had been ambushed by pirates, their cargo stolen, and the crew left to drift in the void between stars. Henry was on the repair team sent over to try and get the ship able to limp back home, while the Archimedes towed it via tractor beam. A couple of the pirates had stowed aboard, sabotaging efforts to repair the ship. In their haste, the saboteurs accidentally set a cascade in motion that would have led to the detonation of the Somnambulist's core, had Castle not been able to abort the cascade failure. While the initial cascade had been aborted, the damage was done, and a detonation impossible to stop. Ejecting the Core was the only way to save both ships. With the freighter now limited to sublight speeds only, Castle was a part of the engineering team that fine-tuned the details to tow the Somnambulist in Warp. The speed was slow, barely able to go past 1.5, but it was enough to reach a nearby Starbase. Following a couple of weeks at the Starbase, Henry would find himself transferred to the USS Camelot, a Monarch-class exploration cruiser. It was a far step up from the Archimedes, and one that would impact his life more than he could have expected. Within a year aboard the Camelot, Henry had earned his promotion to full Lieutenant, and was the Assistant Chief Engineer. Not only that, he had someone to share and enjoy life with, Adora - Addie - Hart. A second wave of personnel was needed, to support and resupply the Delta Quadrant expedition through the immense technological marvel known as the Catapult. With a whole new area of space to explore, and a host of new species, with new technologies, there was more than enough to excite the pair of them. Henry and Addie were moved onto the USS Tyche, a specially modified starship, to house a vast number of passangers on top of the standard crew. It was a journey that fate had decided would not be completed. The Catapult, suffering an unknown failure during operation hurled the Tyche in an unknown direction, to an unknown destination. Henry, always the engineer, even if not a member of the crew, rendered aid. The exit from Null Space had left the Tyche badly crippled, and Henry watched the system cascade, his memories of the Weeping Somnambulist came back. This time, he was unable to prevent the cascade failure. He was, though, able to work with the Tyche's Chief, and eject the core. That was when the call came to abandon the ship. |
