Appointments

Posted on Sun Mar 13th, 2022 @ 5:23am by Lieutenant Cyrus Halsey & Lieutenant Commander Carson Fleming III

Mission: Looking Forward, Looking Back
Location: Medical

CJ walked into Medical carrying his PADD, he had tried to schedule all of his check in appointments in one day to get them done quickly, now it was time to meet the ship's Doc. *Gotta make a good impression, in case he or she has to patch me up* he thought as he took a seat in the small lobby. His slight headache was normal after an evening of drinking the "old family recipe" but nothing some hydration couldn't fix.

The nurse quickly took him back, the Lieutenant being one of the only people in the waiting room at the time. Efficient at her work, she was also quiet, not saying anymore than what was needed to get his intake done and paperwork verified. With a quick nod she was gone again, leaving the man on the bio bed, surrounded by consoles displaying basic vitals and information of the patient, with the ensuing noises that go with it.

"'Effing staff can't keep up," Carson mumbled quietly to himself before turning the corner into the room. His left turn pivoted off his cane as he stepped into the room with his asynchronous steps. He stopped for a moment to eye the man, his eyes flickering from patient to monitors, before continuing to the console. "Physical?" He asked plainly, not looking at the man, but focusing on the patient chart.

"Just onboarding Doc, Pre-launch check," CJ replied, this guy needs a drink more than I do, he thought to himself.

"Mm," the doctor replied, eventually looking up from the console. "Any changes from your last physical at the Academy?" He moved steadily from console to patient, beginning a physical checkup.

"Nope just looking forward to having deck plates under my boots again instead of Earth. It's fun the first few times you make cadets eat dirt and dig latrines but it wears off after three years or so. I'm ready to travel and see the sites," CJ replied.

Carson grunted, moving from one aspect of the patient to the next. He leaned slightly on the bio bed because his cane also leaned against it so he could use both hands. They switched between the tricorder and palpating the patient. Nothing truly intrusive, however effective for the simple checks that needed to be done. Five minutes and he was done, finishing some last minute scans on his tricorder. "Looks like you'll get to see the sites," he replied tapping the last few things into the tricorder before closing it and grabbing his cane.

CJ stood up and looked at the doctor, "Sounds good Doc, you need anything else from me?"

Carson worked his way back to the console, checking the patient chart to ensure all the information uploaded correctly, seemingly ignoring the question. He eventually picked up a PaDD, tossing it over to the patient. "Verify your emergency contact information and then you can get out of my hair."

"It's the same as it was when I left Frisco, Cain Halsey Jefferson, Texas, Father, Elsa Halsey, same place, Mother. Doc, I feel fine maybe we can practice the bedside manner over a bottle and a game of poker later."

Carson saved the information, raising an eyebrow to the man's response. "Possibly," he responded, slightly at a loss to the response of the patient. He grabbed his cane after shutting down the console and began to leave. "Your free to leave," He said over his shoulder, rounding the corner. "'Effing bedside manner," He mumbled to himself.

"Thanks Doc, I'll see ya 'round," CJ said as he started walking away. "I'm serious about poker, I'm going to try to get a group together, maybe I'll see ya at a game."

"I'll consider it," Carson replied before disappearing off to his next appointment.
