Rock Solid

Mission: USS Tyche
Nim had taken the time out with all the grace she could muster. In retrospect she regretted her actions deeply, her response was one that stemmed from pure emotion, nothing more.
It was only maybe thirty minutes that she was absent, sitting at a nearby group of trees, watching as the sun started to dip in the sky, but it was thirty minutes that Nim needed to clear her head and return her focus to the here and now.
Standing up, she brushed her sleeves over her eyes, quickly removing any residual dampness before dusting her hands on her hips and starting back toward the chaos that she knew Barakos would have well in hand.
It was as she approached the remains of the ship, walking slowly through the crew that were being triaged and treated for various injuries from the crash that something caught her attention. No, not something, someONE. She stopped walking, frozen for a moment, eyes widening, shock and surprise registering on her face. Without thinking, in her second rather uncaptainly display of the day, she closed the distance between them, throwing herself forcefully into his hard form, the impact taking her breath away. It was only as her arms tightened around his neck that she finally managed the few breathless words. "I thought you were dead."
Vic had caught a glimpse of Nim in his peripheral as she closed the gap. If he wasn't a massive Brikarian she would have surely knocked them over. Instead he embraced her as she hung from his neck.
"It was touch and go for a bit I was jammed in with the ship all around me. Took a bit of time for me to move some walls and redecorate a new door and get free." He said as he put her back on her feet. "Things look rough out here. Any preliminary numbers yet?" He asked looking around for some of his security team and taking a mental note of who he saw.
She shook her head in response. "We're still getting people out of the ship. It's slow. We can't allow people back in until the ship is deemed safe, we can't risk more lives... so it's a slow process getting people out with the limited numbers we can allow in. We've got teams scouting for water, food, shelter and such... we're losing light quickly." There was concern evident in her voice as she spoke. "It's not a good situation." A pause, a sharp intake of breath. "I don't know what I'm doing."
Vic put his hands on her shoulders and looking into her eyes. "Slow down, breathe. You don't have to know what your doing. Just triage the whole thing. Figure out what needs done first and lets make it happen. The crew need you to get through this." He finished his pep talk. "I will help where ever you need but need to get a quick security assessment done. Have we seen anyone or anything native yet?"
Nim shook her head. "Thankfully no. That's the last thing I want to deal with while we're still dealing with the aftermath. We need to get people out, we don't want to deal with natives while we're doing that. Nightfall is going to be hard enough." She sighed. "We should probably put some thought into lights. We're going to need to be able to see."
"Well I see a couple of my people I will make sure we are setting up a basic security perimeter. I can help move some debris and help extricate people from the wreckage. Now that I know your safe I can better do my job." He looked in her eyes as he had plans forming in his head.
Just then a gold shirt came walking past. "Ensign, round up five more and get me a detail basic security. This is basecamp for now. Spread out within voice range. We can't rely on coms. We need to make sure we see anything coming before they are on us. I am sure if there is anyone on this rock they saw the crash and will be coming to check it out." He told his officer and then turned back to Nim. "You good with me going to help with the wreck?"
Nim nodded and remained silent, as much as she wanted the comfort of his familiar presence, she knew it was necessary that he do his part. "I need to go speak with Commander Barakos," she said quietly. "I'll talk to you later?"
"Unless your mad at me" He gave a wink as he headed back towards the wreckage to check in with the team that was doing search and rescue.
